🔬 About SEHSS

SEHSS (Standard Examination in High School Science) is a national-level science examination conducted by the Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT). It aims to promote scientific curiosity, conceptual understanding, logical reasoning and problem-solving ability among school students.

SEHSS is conducted by the Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT), a voluntary academic organization established to promote quality science education and scientific temperament among students and teachers in India.

SEHSS provides a national-level platform for students to challenge their scientific understanding beyond regular school examinations. It helps students develop analytical thinking, strengthen concepts in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics, and gain recognition through certificates, awards and OCSE selection.

Unlike school examinations that mainly evaluate textbook knowledge, SEHSS focuses on conceptual understanding, scientific reasoning, analytical ability and application of knowledge to solve unfamiliar problems.
👨‍🎓 Eligibility Criteria

Students studying in Class 10 and lower classes can appear for SEHSS. It is especially suitable for students of Classes 8, 9 and 10 who have a strong interest in science and mathematics.

No. SEHSS does not have a separate age restriction. Students studying in Class 10 or lower classes are eligible to appear for the examination.

Yes. Students from all recognized educational boards, including CBSE, ICSE, State Boards, Open Schools and International Boards can participate in SEHSS.

No. Students who have already passed Class 10 are not eligible to appear for SEHSS.
📝 Examination Pattern

SEHSS is an offline OMR-based objective examination. It tests conceptual understanding, analytical thinking and scientific reasoning rather than simple memorization. The examination duration is 2 hours 30 minutes and includes questions from Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics.

SEHSS is conducted in offline mode. Students receive a printed question paper and mark their answers on an OMR answer sheet.

The SEHSS question paper consists of 60 objective questions:
  • 48 Single Correct Answer questions
  • 12 Multiple Correct Answer questions
Questions are equally distributed among Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics.

Subject Single Correct Multiple Correct Total
Physics 12 3 15
Chemistry 12 3 15
Biology 12 3 15
Mathematics 12 3 15
Total 48 12 60
Marks 3 (-1) each 6 (-0) each 218

In section A (Single Correct Answer), each correct answer is awarded 3 marks and each incorrect answer results in a deduction of 1 mark. In section B (Multiple Correct Answer), each correct answer is awarded 6 marks and there is no negative marking for incorrect answers.

No. Calculators and other electronic devices are generally not allowed during the SEHSS examination.

SEHSS is generally available in English and Hindi. It may also be offered in other Indian languages if sufficient number of students opt for them.

Yes. SEHSS is usually more challenging than regular school examinations because it tests conceptual clarity, logical reasoning and the ability to apply knowledge in unfamiliar situations. Students with strong NCERT fundamentals and regular problem-solving practice can perform very well.
📚 Syllabus & Subject Preparation

The SEHSS syllabus is based on the CBSE Class 10 and lower classes syllabus. It includes four major subjects:
  • Physics
  • Chemistry
  • Biology
  • Mathematics
The syllabus is primarily based on NCERT textbooks of classes 8-10 and focuses on conceptual understanding rather than memorization.

NCERT textbooks form the foundation of SEHSS preparation. Students should thoroughly study concepts, examples, activities and diagrams. For top ranks and OCSE selection, students should also practice advanced conceptual questions and high-quality mock tests.

All four subjects — Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics — carry equal weightage in SEHSS. Therefore, students should maintain a balanced preparation strategy and avoid neglecting any subject.

Focus on understanding fundamental concepts, numerical problem solving, diagrams and practical applications. Important areas include mechanics, electricity, light, sound and modern scientific ideas from the NCERT textbooks of classes 8-10. Trishna's Pearson IIT Foundation Physics is a good resource for practice.

Build strong concepts in atomic structure, chemical reactions, acids and bases, metals, non-metals and everyday chemistry. Practice application-based questions rather than simply memorizing facts. NCERT class 8-10 and Trishna's Pearson IIT Foundation Chemistry is a good resource for practice.

Understand life processes, cell structure, genetics, ecosystems and human biology. Pay attention to diagrams, scientific terms and the reasoning behind biological processes. NCERT class 8-10, for some chapters class 11 and 12 and Trishna's Pearson NEET Foundation Biology is a good resource for practice.

Practice algebra, geometry, trigonometry, statistics and mathematical reasoning. Regular problem-solving practice is essential to improve speed and accuracy. NCERT class 8-10 and Trishna's Pearson IIT Foundation Mathematics is a good resource for practice.

Yes. Regular mock tests help students evaluate their preparation level, improve speed and accuracy, identify weak areas and become familiar with the actual examination environment. You can access mock tests from the Resources section of this website. You can also use the mock test on this portal for practice.

Absolutely. Regular mock tests help students evaluate their preparation level, identify weak areas, improve speed and accuracy and become comfortable with the actual examination environment.
🗓️ Registration & Examination

Students can register for SEHSS through the official SEHSS/IAPT registration portal when registrations are announced. Students should carefully check all details before submission.

SEHSS will be tentatively conducted in the last week of November 2026. Students should refer to the latest official notification for exact dates, registration schedule and other important updates.

Students should carry their admit card and required stationery items such as blue or black ball-point pens for marking the OMR answer sheet. Follow all instructions mentioned in the official admit card.

Results and score cards are published online after evaluation of answer sheets. Students can access their results through the official examination portal using their credentials.
🏆 Awards, Certificates & Recognition

SEHSS recognizes students at different levels.
  • Centre Top 10% students receive an online certificate.
  • State Top 1% students receive a State Topper Certificate.
  • National Top 1% students receive a Merit Certificate and a book prize.
  • OCSE selected students receive a Medal and a Certificate of Academic Excellence.
🔭 OCSE Science Excellence Camp

OCSE (Orientation Camp for Science Excellence) is a prestigious residential science camp organized for top-performing SEHSS students. It allows students to interact with expert faculty and like-minded science enthusiasts from across India.

India is divided into five zones: North, South, East, West and Central. The top 25 students from each zone are selected for OCSE, making a total of 125 students from across the country.

OCSE is a 10-day residential science camp. Selected students receive free boarding and lodging. Travel expenses are reimbursed as per the rules announced by the organizers.

Yes. Outstanding performers during OCSE receive special recognition including Merit Certificates and prizes as announced by the organizers.
